Out of the Station Fire Ashes Project
Michael Caley’s passion for nature coalesced into a unique project in 2009 when 250 square miles of the Angeles National forest burned in the Station Fire above La Canada Flintridge. With special clearance to mountain bike in the closed forest as a US Forest Service volunteer, he photographed the forest recovery on a year round weekly basis. His ongoing “Out of the Station Fire Ashes” project chronicles the forest transformation from scorched earth to mountainsides covered with fire-follower wildflowers and other flora and fauna that go with them.
